The global Humanist movement has the following core principles: "Humanism is a democratic and ethical life stance that affirms that human beings have the right and responsibility to give meaning and shape to their own lives. Humanism stands for the building of a more humane society through an ethics based on human and other natural values in a spirit of reason and free inquiry through human capabilities. Humanism is not theistic, and it does not accept supernatural views of reality." This is just the start! Modern individual Humanists have diverse concerns. Some prioritise science, reason and confronting destructive superstitions while others pursue human rights and humanitarianism. Yet the heart of Humanism is a living ethos of values and practices, deepening our humanity, expanding our potential, and giving our lives meaning.
Not named so until recently, 'Humanism' was always there in ancient Greco-Roman, Egyptian, Mesopotamian, Chinese, Indian and even some Judeo-Christian ideas. Ancestral and indigenous hunter-gatherers have also approached Humanism when they attune their minds to their environment, their bodies, their companions and their human needs. Thus Humanism arises whenever humans make humanity central in their values. More

MEDIA RELEASE BY THE NSW HUMANIST SOCIETY REGARDING GENOCIDE IN GAZA
(April 2024)
We ask that the Australian Government make strong representations to the Israeli Government on this matter, and suggest an immediate ceasefire. We call for the Australian Government to themselves cease supplying military assistance to Israel, and to ask the government of the United States of America to suspend supplying weapons to Israel during this conflict.
Links below offer evidence of war crimes being committed by the Israeli military, and show the concerns expressed by involved international organisations.
Here is a textbook example of genocide being committed by Israeli soldiers in Gaza. Three cousins with their aunt and uncle were driving north in Gaza, when their car came under Israeli fire. The aunt and uncle and one cousin were killed. The 15 year old cousin then got in touch with the Red Crescent Society. While on the phone, she was also killed. The remaining 6 year old girl then also spoke to the Red Crescent who sent a marked ambulance, with two paramedics to help. 12 days later, when the army had left the area, relatives discovered that all had been killed in the car and ambulance. There has been no apology or explanation from the Israeli Government. The story is confirmed by other news outlets. The mobile phone voice recordings of the children, before they were murdered, can be heard.
Note the different response by the Israel government to the recent deaths of 7 aid workers, 6 of whom were not Palestinians. There was an apology and attempted explanation, within a few days.

Here is an Amnesty International report from 2022, which describes a state of apartheid in the treatment of Palestinians by Israel. https://www.amnesty.org/.../israel-opt-israel-is.../
Here is an address to the UN Security Council in February 2024, by Christopher Lockyear, the Secretary General of Doctors Without Borders. He warns: "The consequences of casting international humanitarian law to the wind will reverberate well beyond Gaza. It will be an enduring burden on our collective conscience". https://www.msf.org/msf-briefing-gaza-un-security-council
